In a land where grey skies dominated long winters, colour brought life to the home. These tones animated wooden interiors, softened harsh surfaces, and expressed creativity through the hands of makers. Reinterpreted within this collection, the palette preserves a heritage in which colour was vital, used to infuse austere rooms with warmth and creative vitality.
A decade of creative legacy finds its fullest expression in TRANSYLVANIAN RHAPSODY. Launching this week at London Design Week, our most expansive lifestyle collection to date stands as a tribute to the multicultural heritage that has shaped our vision since 2016. Inspired by the unique multicultural heritage of our homeland, TRANSYLVANIAN RHAPSODY is shaped by the wild romance and free spirit that move through this enchanted land. Created to celebrate our Ten-Year Anniversary, the story stands as a tribute to freedom of expression and cultural diversity, honouring wanderers and dreamers, those who find beauty in nature and independence in thought, and artistic souls drawn to colour, craft, and a spirit of individuality in all its forms.
What began as conviction has evolved into legacy. From our inaugural wallpaper collection in 2016 to the expansive lifestyle offering we present today, MINDTHEGAP has pursued the path of honoring the craft traditions of its homeland while building a design language recognized across continents. TRANSYLVANIAN RHAPSODY represents the culmination of this pursuit, a collection where ancestral heritage and artistic audacity converge with unprecedented refinement.
The pattern above prepares you for a secret world where animals gather for mysterious conversation beneath fringed umbrellas. A fox, bear, dog, and goat take their places at ornate tables as if convening for afternoon tea, the scene around water fountains that rise alongside delicate trees, their branches laden with small leaves that frame these curious gatherings where creatures sit like old friends sharing stories only they understand. Scattered wildflowers and decorative orbs add whimsy to the fanciful pattern, with five pleasing coloured backgrounds to choose from.
If you take a closer look at the next whimsical image you will definitely see two deer stand sentinel while a resting donkey keeps watch beneath towering fir trees, their bodies adorned with decorative embroidery that transforms them from simple animals into celebrated figures of folklore. A WOODLAND TALE depicts the innocent charm of folk art: spiraling florals in vivid reds and oranges, delicate white bells nodding on green stems, tulips rendered in bold strokes that preserve the artist's expressive touch. Set against Cream and Anthracite backgrounds, the scene anchors the bond between humans and nature where animals were honored through decoration and the forest provided the perfect backdrop for the story.
Once shaped into an English Landscape Garden, the castle park now blends quiet refinement with untamed beauty. The Mikes family has held these lands for over six centuries, enduring political shifts, communist confiscation in 1949, and eventual reclamation in the early 2000s following the fall of communism.
Today, Zabola remains home to the family that has cared for it across generations, a lived-in estate where nature and memory meet, where the rhythm of the land dictates the pace of life. It proved the perfect setting to photograph TRANSYLVANIAN RHAPSODY, a collection born from the same wild romance and free spirit that moves through this enchanted land, where wanderers pause and, for a moment, belong.
